A partial eclipse last week had many in the area trying to find the perfect vantage point to view the lunar activity in the middle of the afternoon of the day it occurred. A part-time columnist of mine snapped some shots of the event a block away from the office using filters to cut through the cloud cover. I liked them so much I asked if he'd let me pick one for the front page, which he was happy to provide. I also thought that the photo was fitting when placed next to the headline story of a daring nighttime rescue in the area.
